Garage Roof Easter Eggs

This would have been Easter morning 1953 or 54. My friend Roddy Parrett and I decided to eat all the easter eggs from his family and mine up on the roof of our garage. We would use a ladder and pull it up after us so no one could catch us. Our plan worked great — we thought we were geniuses. There we were safe from interfering siblings or grown-ups with our valuable stash. We dove into the chocolate like only 5-year-old boys could.

I distinctly remember my disappointment at trying to eat one of the carefully decorated Ukrainian-style painted eggs and finding it to be a real boiled egg. For the rest of the escapade, as we came upon these colourful beauties we simply dropped them over the side and watched them smash on the ground.

This was probably our undoing, however I am not sure how this ended. I know I got the strap a number of times as a boy, and this may have been one of them
